Missile Command — manual

Missile Command

Local development build of Atari’s 1980 game.

Controls

Each browser load or reset starts with 40 credits, the original program's maximum. Press Space or 1 to start one player; 2 starts two players. 5 still inserts a coin; the original pricing requires two coins per credit. Move the mouse to turn the original trackball counters; fractional movement is retained at every display scale. Click the game for unrestricted relative movement; Esc releases it. Arrow keys also aim. Z, X, and C fire the left, middle, and right batteries. The left, middle, and right mouse buttons fire those same batteries. P pauses; R resets the machine.

Defend the cities by intercepting incoming missiles with expanding explosions. Conserve ammunition for the end-of-round bonus.

Completed high scores and initials are saved in this browser and restored after reset or reload. Clearing site data removes them. This does not save a game in progress.

Development status

Sound starts after a key press or click. Pause also silences audio. The original POKEY register stream drives four synthesized channels. The arcade CRT shader is a browser presentation adaptation. Cabinet audio response and display colors remain provisional. Some later execution paths remain unsupported and will stop explicitly. Full lifecycle and physical hardware fidelity verification remain incomplete. This local build has not been deployed publicly.
